If he hadn't become a physician, Dr. Broder would have been a teacher.
"I've always been involved in teaching, from the medical student level to fellowships," says Dr. Broder, who sees patients at both BMC and Fairview Hospital since joining Berkshire Health Systems' Cardiology Department in January 2005. "It's a personal and professional pleasure for me to work here," he says. "I t
hink the quality of the cardiology department is first rate."
Dr. Broder is the former Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Baystate Medical Center, and Deputy Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he continues as a Professor of Medicine.
He is also an amateur chorister of long experience and sings with the Springfield Symphony Chorus. During his medical training, Dr. Broder sang with the choruses of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.
A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Broder completed post graduate medical training at the University of Chicago Hospital, Metro health Medical Center in Cleveland, and the University of London Institute of Cardiology in England.
Board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, Dr. Broder holds a faculty appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Dr. Broder grew up in Detroit. He and his wife are the parents of four children, two of whom are currently in medical school.
